LIDC is the business and economic development arm of the former Labrador Inuit Association (LIA), investing in areas that are a natural fit for Labrador Inuit. As LIA no longer exists as an Inuit association, LIDC's management and oversight structure has been remodelled to reflect its new relationship with Nunatsiavut Government.

Over the past twenty years LIDC has continued to invest in mining, quarry operations, fisheries, radar site operations, logistics support and real estate and other operations to ensure Labrador Inuit generate employment and business opportunities. Through partnerships and independent operations, LIDC employed close to six hundred people annually, the majority of whom are Labrador Inuit.

The Nunatsiavut Government – through LIDC- will continue to strategically invest in areas with direct impact and benefit for Labrador Inuit; from housing, health care, environmental and wildlife management to fisheries, mining, logging, logistics support, real estate and construction. It will focus on generating employment and economic development for Labrador Inuit, immediately and over the long term. Traditional Inuit skills combined with education and training will help meet the requirements of today's labour market, within Nunatsiavut and beyond.
